Fedora 15 Final Review – video tutorial

Hello everyone! Let’s take a look at several features of Fedora 15 also knowned as “LoveLock“, which was released on this month.

The new version of Fedora brings a reshaped operating system, with a new look, the Gnome Shell 3, and better driver support for some graphical tablets and some older hardware, such as scanners and printers.

The graphical interface Gnome Shell 3, which runs on top of Gnome 3, uses composition, that means 3D acceleration.

It has a new gtk3 theme “Adwaita“, the icons are by default “gnome”, and there is only one metacity button configured, the close button.

There are two horizontal main panels, top and bottom. The top panel houses the “Activities” Area, Date&Time, and a list of quick settings (Universal Access Settings, Volume, Network, Battery and a User Menu).

The Activities Area can be accessed simply by pointing the mouse cursor in that top left corner, or by hitting the WinKey.

Also in the Activities Area there are panels for favorite applications, virtual desktops and the possibility to access search results with the help of a search utility.

The Windows Option shows all the applications that currently run on the working desktop and those who are minimized.

The Applications Option show the list of currently installed programs that run on the graphical interface.

Adding favorite applications can be done simply by dragging one application onto the Favorites Panel, removing it from the panel to the Trash Icon on the same Favorites Panel, or by simply right-click -> Remove.

After to much work you would prefer to shutdown the machine, or switch to Windows or other operating system, restarting.

That can be done by pressing and holding “Alt” Key from the keyboard, while in the same time putting the cursor onto the Suspend Button (User Menu).

Comparing it with the new version of Ubuntu, the Natty Narwall, Fedora LoveLock is by far Stable, Faster and more Secure.
